German Gifted Education

My son's first day in German Kindergarten.
This PowerPoint allowed me to explore the approach used in Germany towards gifted education. Some of the more interesting facts from those interviewed included: (a) some areas of Germany allow entry into gifted programs (the Gymnasium, or college track) using a lottery for a certain percentage or number of spots. The hope is that children of potential can have a chance to attend college; (b) if a child does not "test" into the college track, then the parents are allowed to contest the decision and have their child placed into the Gymnasium and allowed a chance to succeed.
This was of great interest to me since we had lived in Germany for those three years.
